IT’S FRIDAY!!! That means it’s time for another #ICYMI, where we go through all of the biggest things to happen in the world of social media and online video this week. Let’s jump right in…
1. Zoella hit 10 million subscribers
The UK Queen of all things beauty and lifestyle hit a major, major milestone this week when she hit 10 MILLION subscribers. Posting on YouTube since 2007, Zoe Sugg has truly set the bar for authentic, beautiful how-to videos, hauls, and so much more. It seems to run in the family, with bro Joe Sugg (5M+) and bae Alfie (5M+) as well! Congrats Zoella!! Here’s to 20 million!
2. Grace Helbig’s Second Book “Grace & Style” is out
Grace Helbig is an author… again! This time she’s taking on fashion, style, and glam in her own quirky and totally loveable Grace way. She’s off on the road on a book tour to promo the book, so you should check if she’s doing a meet and greet or book signing in your city! You can buy the book here: http://www.simonandschusterpublishing.com/graceandstyle/
3. Troye Sivan’s Blue Neighbourhood tour Kicked off
Troye Sivan started his US tour this week to promote his new album “Blue Neighbourhood”. We’ve already seen him kill it on Jimmy Fallon and Ellen, so it’s time to see our fave singles “WILD” and “Youth” performed live. Find out if he’s coming to a city near you here: http://www.troyesivan.com/tour
4. First YouTube RED Originals get a Release Date
YouTube announced a few months back that, with the launch of the paid subscription service YouTube RED, they’d be releasing exclusive original shows, starring some of their biggest Creators. This week they announced they’ll finally be released next week! Among the series being released, there’s PewDiePie’s “ScarePewDiePie”, “A Trip to Unicorn Island” with Lilly Singh, and “Lazer Team” with RoosterTeeth. Be sure to check them out on February 10th!
5. The Fine Bros Saga
The saga is pretty complicated, but here is our SUPER BASIC version. Last week, The Fine Bros of “Reacts” fame announced that they’d be creating a new network called “React World”, where they’d license out their react-style videos, so that anyone in their community around the world could create their own videos. Turns out, the internet did not respond well to that news and had fans and creators taking their qualms to social media. The complaints got to be so overwhelming, that the Fine Bros cancelled the whole thing. Read more about what went down here: http://www.tubefilter.com/2016/02/01/the-fine-bros-react-world-reaction/
That’s all for this week y’all. Check us out next week as we get 7 days closer to the premiere of Tyler Oakley on “Amazing Race”!! Did we miss something or do you wanna chat about all of the crazy stuff that happened this week? Holler at us @EpoxyTV. We’d love to hear from you.
